"Indiana Road," released in 1987 on World Record Corp. / Sweetwater Records, is Canadian singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith's third album — an early crystallization of the rural, blue-collar roots-country storytelling style that would earn him a devoted following on both sides of the border. Working in the tradition of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt but with a distinctly Canadian agricultural and working-class perspective, Eaglesmith peoples his songs with farmers, highway workers, and the quietly desperate inhabitants of small-town life. Though not a bluegrass artist, he occupies the Americana and roots-country space that heavily overlaps with bluegrass audiences, and his character-driven songwriting has been covered across the folk and roots spectrum. "Indiana Road" is considered a seminal document of Canadian Americana.
