Tennessee Jubilee, released in 1975 on Flying Fish (FF 012), reunited fiddler Benny "Big Tiger" Martin with Lester Flatt for a freewheeling Nashville session anchored by John Hartford, who produced and played banjo. Martin (fiddle/vocals), Flatt (guitar/vocals), Hartford (banjo), Curly Seckler, Kenny Ingram, and Charlie Collins work through fourteen tracks of fiddle tunes, bluegrass staples, and mainstream country. Hartford, freshly flush from the Aereo-Plain era, had moved back to Nashville and become patron to his childhood idol Martin — inventor of the eight-string fiddle — pulling him out of an extended commercial drought and into a session with the Sparta, Tennessee, hometown friend who had once employed him, Flatt. Flatt died two years later, making this one of his last sustained studio appearances.
