The David Grisman Quintet
The David Grisman Quintet is an American acoustic ensemble led by the mandolinist David Grisman, the group through which he developed his genre-blending style known as “Dawg music.”
- Its original lineup, formed in the mid-1970s, included the guitarist Tony Rice, the violinist Darol Anger, the bassist Bill Amatneek, and Todd Phillips.
- The quintet's music blended bluegrass with jazz, drawing on the swing of Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.
- Released its self-titled debut album in 1977, a landmark of progressive acoustic music.
- The group continued for decades with changing personnel.
