Claire Lynch is a New York-born guitarist and lead singer whose Front Porch String Band, Rounder and Compass solo discography, and three IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year wins (1997, 2010, 2013) have made her one of the defining female voices in bluegrass — a three-time Grammy nominee and Walker Foundation USA Fellowship honoree.

  • Born February 20, 1954 in Kingston, New York; moved to Huntsville, Alabama at age 12.
  • Three-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year (1997, 2010, 2013).
  • Three Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album (1995's "Moonlighter," 1997's "Silver and Gold," and 2016).
  • Co-founded Hickory Wind in college, which became Front Porch String Band; played with the group until it retired from the road in 1981.
  • Front Porch String Band reformed in 1991 with the album "Lines and Traces" on Rebel Records, leading to her solo career.
  • Solo discography on Rounder and Compass Records includes "Friends for a Lifetime" (1993), "Moonlighter" (1995), "Silver and Gold" (1997), "New Day" (2005), and "Whatcha Gonna Do" (2009).
  • Founded the Claire Lynch Band in 2005.
  • Received a USA Walker Fellowship Award (2012); widely cited (alongside Dale Ann Bradley) as one of the leading female voices in bluegrass.
