Adeline (self-released, 2021) is a studio album from an ensemble of five acoustic musicians rooted in the Canadian old-time and folk scene, funded through a Kickstarter campaign and grounded in the Southern Appalachian dance-tune and song tradition. Chris Coole plays banjo; Adrian Gross plays mandolin; Mark Kilianski plays guitar; John Showman plays fiddle; and Sam Allison plays bass. The album's title draws from the old song "Sweet Adeline," one of many pieces the project inhabits. Its character — loose, affectionate, and more interested in groove than in technical display — aligns with the communal values of the old-time tradition, and reviewers noted the ensemble's willingness to bring humor and personality to a repertoire that often invites a more austere approach. Adeline documents a gathering of like-minded musicians who clearly know and trust one another.
