The Charles River Valley Boys' Beatle Country, released on Elektra Records (EKL-4006) in 1966, is an all-bluegrass treatment of Beatles repertoire by the Cambridge, Massachusetts folk-revival band. Bob Siggins plays banjo; Joe Val—born Joseph Valiante, later of Joe Val and the New England Bluegrass Boys—mandolin; Jim Field, guitar; and Everett A. Lilly, bass. Nashville session players Buddy Spicher (fiddle), Craig Wingfield (dobro), and Eric Thompson (guitar) complete the ensemble. Produced by Paul Rothchild, the album was recorded in Nashville for access to top-shelf pickers. It became a collectors' item and was reissued on CD by Rounder in 1995. Lilly's presence connects the record to the West Virginia Lilly Brothers, central figures in the Boston folk-revival bluegrass scene.
