Blood Ties, released in August 2017 by Chasing Blue, is the debut full-length from the Boston-based band that formed at Berklee College of Music in fall 2008. The lineup pairs Mike Reese on guitar and lead vocals with Alex Muri on bass and harmony, Laura Orshaw on mandolin and harmony, Maggie MacKay on banjo, and Danny Musher on fiddle. The set leans hard-driving with tight ensemble arrangements and a mix of originals and traditional material, drawing on the same Northeast bluegrass scene that produced Della Mae and Mile Twelve. The record followed a 2013 debut EP and arrived as Orshaw was building a reputation as one of the region's strongest young harmony singers — a role that later carried her into the Po' Ramblin' Boys.
