Blue Kentucky Girl cover

Blue Kentucky Girl is a 1979 album by Emmylou Harris released on Warner Bros. Records (BSK-3318), produced by Brian Ahern and recorded at his Enactron Truck mobile studio. Harris (vocals, guitar) is backed by the Hot Band at its most traditional: Ricky Skaggs (fiddle, mandolin, guitar), Rodney Crowell (guitar, vocals), Emory Gordy Jr. (bass), Hank DeVito (pedal steel), and Albert Lee. The album is Harris's most overt embrace of traditional country—covering Loretta Lynn, Lester Flatt, and the Carter Family alongside originals—and won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. It marks the moment Harris staked her claim as the foremost keeper of the traditional country flame in an era dominated by the polished Nashville Sound.
