Blue Side of Town, released by Rounder Records in 1992 (Rounder CD 0292), is the formal debut of the Del McCoury Band — the configuration McCoury had built with his sons Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo. Recorded at Bias Recorders in Springfield, Virginia and produced by Ken Irwin, the album marked the rebrand from McCoury's older Dixie Pals identity into the band that would soon become bluegrass's most decorated working act. The program runs through a deliberately blue-shaded program of perfectly chosen songs — Beauty of My Dreams, Queen Anne's Lace, If You Need a Fool, the title track. McCoury would soon earn his third consecutive Male Vocalist of the Year nod from the IBMA on the strength of the album.
