Blue Skies (Compass 7 4662-2, 2016) is Mountain Heart's first studio album in five years and their debut on Compass Records, marking a significant lineup evolution: returning members Josh Shilling (vocals, keyboards) and Aaron Ramsey (banjo, guitar) are joined by Seth Taylor (guitar), Jeff Partin (multi-instrumentalist), and Molly Cherryholmes — a five-time Grammy nominee known for her family band — who came aboard as fiddler and vocalist shortly before recording. The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart and crossed to #37 on the Americana Airplay chart. Its sonic range — from roots-bluegrass to blues- and soul-inflected Americana, including a cover of Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm" — confirms the band's restless creative ambitions.
