Bluegrass Old and New cover

Bluegrass Old and New is a 1972 album by Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers, from an early period in Sparks's career as a leader following his years as a member of the Stanley Brothers band after Carter Stanley's death. Sparks brought a raw, aching vocal quality to his work — a voice with more grit than polish, perfectly suited to the hard-edged repertoire he favored. His guitar playing was equally distinctive: a driving, rhythmically forceful style with lead lines that cut through a mix without decoration. The album has the directness that comes from musicians who have played the material repeatedly in front of audiences that don't tolerate half-measures.
