Christmas in the Hills, released by Rebel Records in 1997, is an expanded reissue of Larry Sparks's 1976 King Bluegrass holiday LP — Rebel adding five new tracks to the seven from the original to round out the program. The bluegrass arrangements of Christmas standards (Silent Night, White Christmas, Blue Christmas, Joy to the World, Go Tell It on the Mountain, Christmas Time's A-Coming) catch Sparks's distinctive bluesy guitar and soulful lead vocal in seasonal mode. The album sits comfortably alongside the broader Rebel-era Sparks catalog that kept his music in circulation through the 1990s.
