Cover to Cover (Compass Records 7 4798 2) was released on 5 August 2022. It is the third Compass album by the Brother Brothers, the identical twins Adam and David Moss, who grew up in Peoria, Illinois. Adam sings and plays fiddle and Wurlitzer; David sings and plays cello and guitar. The twelve songs are all covers, by writers including Tom T. Hall, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Judee Sill, Hoagy Carmichael, Robert Earl Keen, Richard Thompson and Tom Waits. They also took on “Blue Virginia Blues,” by Leroy Drumm and Pete Goble, which Adam Moss counts among his favorite bluegrass songs, and “High Sierra,” by Harley Allen, a song Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt recorded on Trio II.
The brothers produced the album themselves, and it was recorded in Nashville. Sarah Jarosz plays mandolin on Robert Earl Keen’s “Feelin’ Good Again” and sings harmony on “You Can Close Your Eyes”; Alison Brown plays banjo; Rachael and Emily Price sing on an a cappella “I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes)”; Michaela Anne sings harmony on “High Sierra”; and Jeff Picker, Michael Rinne, Ryan Scott and Matty Meyer round out the band.
