Epilogue: A Tribute to John Duffey is a 2018 Smithsonian Folkways album (SFW CD 40228) honoring the Washington, D.C.–born mandolinist and tenor singer who co-founded both the Country Gentlemen (1957) and the Seldom Scene (1971) and is widely credited as a defining architect of progressive bluegrass. Duffey died of a heart attack on December 10, 1996 — the same month he was inducted into the IBMA Hall of Honor. The seventeen-track tribute draws from fifty-three contributing musicians, each track assembled from a different subset; contributors include Eddie Adcock, David Parmley, James King, John Cowan, Kenny Smith, Lou Reid, Marty Raybon, Ron Inscore, Ron Stewart, and Mike Canney. Conceived shortly after Duffey's death and completed over many years, the album took more than two decades to reach release.
