Flyin' Shoes is a 1978 album released by Townes Van Zandt on Tomato Records (TOM-7017), his first new studio material in five years, produced by Chips Moman at American Studios in Nashville. Van Zandt (guitar, vocals) is joined by Spooner Oldham (piano), Jimmy Day (steel guitar), Randy Scruggs (guitar), Tommy Cogbill (bass), and others in sessions that drew on Moman's Muscle Shoals–inflected production approach. The polished studio sound drew mixed responses—praised for clarity, occasionally criticized for smoothing Van Zandt's rawness—but "No Place to Fall" and "Loretta" were singled out by critics as exemplary songwriting. It would be his last studio album of new material until At My Window, nine years later.
