Handmade to Hand Played

Handmade to Hand Played (Preston Thompson Guitars, 2020) is a tribute compilation released to honor luthier Preston Thompson, presenting recordings by numerous acoustic guitarists who play Thompson instruments, with proceeds supporting an Oregon Bluegrass Association scholarship for young players to receive a Thompson guitar. Contributors include Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings, Josh Rinkel, Peter Rowan, Laurie Lewis, Claire Lynch, and Tim Stafford, among many others, each performing on their Thompson instrument in a range of acoustic and bluegrass styles. The album serves as both a memorial to Thompson's craftsmanship — his instruments are sought by many of contemporary acoustic music's most prominent performers — and a document of the community his guitars connected across multiple generations of American acoustic playing.
