Molly Tuttle
Molly Tuttle is one of the defining bluegrass artists of the modern era, the first woman to win the IBMA Guitar Player of the Year award and the first artist to win back-to-back Grammys for Best Bluegrass Album, with Crooked Tree (2022) and City of Gold (2023).
- Born January 14, 1993 in Santa Clara, California; raised in Palo Alto and taught guitar from age 8 by her father, Bay Area bluegrass instructor Jack Tuttle.
- Came up through the California Bluegrass Association youth scene with the Tuttles with AJ Lee (2008–2013, see A0289).
- Awarded a Berklee College of Music merit scholarship in 2012; moved from Boston to Nashville in 2015 to launch a solo career.
- Won the IBMA Guitar Player of the Year award in 2017 and 2018 — the first woman to take the award.
- Released the solo debut When You're Ready (Compass, 2019) and the covers album ...but i'd rather be with you (Compass, 2020).
- Formed Golden Highway in 2021 with Bronwyn Keith-Hynes (fiddle), Dominick Leslie (mandolin), Kyle Tuttle (banjo, no relation), and Shelby Means (bass); recorded Crooked Tree (Nonesuch, 2022) and City of Gold (Nonesuch, 2023), both Grammy winners for Best Bluegrass Album.
- Won the IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year award in 2023; nominated for Best New Artist at the 65th Grammys (2023) — an all-genre nomination.
- Dissolved Golden Highway in May 2025 and assembled a new all-female touring band; released So Long Little Miss Sunshine (Nonesuch) in August 2025, produced by Jay Joyce.
