High Lonesome (Rounder 11661-0434-2, 1999) is the second album from Longview, the all-star bluegrass sextet assembled by producer Ken Irwin and named for the Long View Farm recording complex in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. The full lineup — Dudley Connell (guitar, vocals), James King (guitar, vocals), Don Rigsby (mandolin, vocals), Joe Mullins (banjo, vocals), Glen Duncan (fiddle, vocals), and Marshall Wilborn (bass) — built on the debut's 1998 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year win. The album draws on the Stanley Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, and A.P. Carter alongside Rigsby's original "Ballad of Maudie Dawson," with the three-part vocal weave of Connell, King, and Rigsby anchoring every track. Note: James King is absent from this catalog's personnel entry but is confirmed on the album by all published sources.
