High Waters cover

High Waters, released in 2005 on Rebel (REB-CD 1787), is a Rebel reissue of a record Dave Evans had originally cut for the small Kentucky-based Neon label in 2002. Evans plays banjo, lead guitar, and sings, with Ray Craft on guitar and vocals, Gerald Evans Jr. on fiddle and mandolin, Randy Thomas on mandolin and vocals, and Clancy Fields on bass. The set is atypical for Evans: six of the songs are his own compositions — "High Waters (Bad Blood)," "Cold Dark Cell," "Stone Coal West Virginia" — and Evans plays lead guitar on many tracks, giving the record a heavier, harder feel than his usual banjo-fronted norm. The session was self-produced at River Track Studio in Fort Gay, West Virginia.
