I Wouldn't Change You If I Could, the title song of which was recorded September 9, 1958 at radio station WHEE in Martinsville, Virginia, came out as a Starday 45 by Jim Eanes and the Shenandoah Valley Boys in 1959. The session featured Eanes on rhythm guitar with Arnold Terry on second guitar, Allen Shelton on banjo, Roy Russell on fiddle, and Cliff Ragsdale on bass. Eanes wrote many of his own songs through this period, and I Wouldn't Change You If I Could proved one of his most enduring — Ricky Skaggs would carry it to number one on the country chart in 1982. After his Decca contract expired in 1955, Eanes spent the late 1950s cutting Starday and Blue Ridge sides like this one with his Shenandoah Valley Boys.
