Introducing James King cover

Introducing James King was recorded on 8 and 9 December 1985 and issued in 1986 on Wango as LP 118. The producer was Ray Davis, whose voice King had known from the Stanley Brothers’ radio shows. The two met at the Delaware Bluegrass festival, and King credited Davis with his first big break in the music. Davis later arranged for King to sing on stage with Ralph Stanley and to record the album with him that same night and the next day.

King sings lead and plays guitar, and Stanley plays banjo and sings tenor. Charlie Sizemore and Junior Blankenship are on guitars, Jack Cooke on bass, and Eddie Stubbs on fiddle, filling in for Curly Ray Cline. The program is made up of reworkings of Stanley Brothers material and opens with “Don’t Go Out Tonight.”

The LP carried ten of the twelve titles recorded. “Nobody’s Love Is Like Mine” and “What About You” were left off and appeared when Wango reissued the album on CD in 1997, as Wango CD-103.
