Let Them Know I’m From Virginia (Rebel REB-CD 1862) was released on 17 March 2017, thirty years after Tommy Sells and his wife Teresa formed Big Country Bluegrass in Troutdale, Virginia. It was the band’s fourth album for Rebel, following The Boys in Hats & Ties (2010), Memories of the Past (2013) and Country Livin’ (2015). Earlier records had come out on Heritage, Heartland, Hay Holler (1997 to 2007) and Mountain Roads.
The band on the album is Tommy Sells on mandolin, Teresa Sells on guitar, Eddie Gill on guitar and lead vocals, John Treadway on banjo, Tim Laughlin on fiddle and Tony King on bass. Tommy Sells produced it, and Wes Easter recorded, mixed and mastered it.
There are twelve tracks. Tom T. Hall and his wife Dixie, who had given the band “The Boys in Hats and Ties,” contributed two more songs, “The Old Crooked Trail” and “If I Ever Get Home,” and the rest of the program includes songs by the late James King, Glenn Alford, Marvin Morrow, Tracy O’Connell and Eric Marshall. “Burn the Barn,” a Tracy O’Connell song about a bluegrass band coming to town, was released ahead of the album as an advance single, and the title track is “Let ’Em Know I’m From Virginia.”
