Let Them Know I’m From Virginia

Big Country Bluegrass

Album · 2017 · Rebel REB 1862

Let Them Know I'm From Virginia (Rebel Records REB 1862, 2017) is a later-period Big Country Bluegrass recording, capturing the southwest Virginia traditional bluegrass band founded by Tommy and Teresa Sells with their 2010s-era lineup on the Rebel label. Eddie Gill on guitar and vocals, Tim Laughlin on fiddle, Tony King on bass, and John Treadway join the Sells siblings on a record that makes its regional identity explicit in its title. The band had recorded for the Hay Holler label through much of the 1990s and 2000s before transitioning to Rebel, and the 2017 album marks a new phase in a long career sustained by deep roots in the Virginia mountain communities where Tommy and Teresa Sells learned to play. Let Them Know I'm From Virginia is a declaration of place as well as style: bluegrass made by Virginians for an audience that values exactly what Virginia has always produced.
