Long Time to Be Gone (Jalopy Records, 2022) is Nora Brown's second album, recorded in a single weekend at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn Heights — home of the Brooklyn Folk Festival — when Brown was seventeen. Produced by Eli Smith and recorded by Jon Atkinson, the album features Jackson Lynch (fiddle) and Jerron "Blindboy" Paxton (bones), and Brown plays historic instruments including her great-great-grandfather's 1888 Ludscomb banjo and a five-string that belonged to her late mentor John Cohen. Critically received as a landmark in the transmission of Appalachian old-time tradition, the album established Brown as the foremost young voice in the genre — an unbroken living link from the mountain tradition forward into a new generation.
