Album · 1984 · Sugar Hill SH 3738

Lonesome Feeling (Sugar Hill Records SH 3738) is a studio album from Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, the Desert Rose Band co-founders whose acoustic collaboration drew from the bluegrass and California country-folk traditions each had developed through multiple decades of performing, recorded in the intimate duo-and-small-ensemble format that showcases their close-harmony singing and their shared comfort in the acoustic country repertoire. Hillman plays guitar and mandolin and sings; Pedersen plays banjo and guitar and sings; Lee Sklar holds the bass; Dennis Fetchett and Skip Conover contribute additional work. Lee Sklar — one of the most widely recorded session bassists in the Los Angeles music community through his work with James Taylor and dozens of other major artists — provides a rhythmic foundation that bridges the acoustic and studio-pop worlds the two principals had inhabited across their careers.
