Molsky’s Mountain Drifters cover

Molsky's Mountain Drifters (Tree Frog Music, 2016) is the self-titled debut album from the old-time trio led by banjoist and fiddler Bruce Molsky with banjoist Allison de Groot and guitarist Stash Wyslouch. Molsky plays fiddle and banjo and sings; de Groot plays banjo and sings; and Wyslouch plays guitar and sings — three voices and multiple string textures in an ensemble built for the dance-tune tradition but capable of something more personal. The fourteen tracks draw from Southern Appalachian fiddle and banjo repertoire alongside original compositions in a compatible vein, and the approach — informed by Molsky's decades of old-time fieldwork and his partners' own immersion in the tradition — is confident and unhurried. The album introduced the trio to a wider audience and established Molsky's Mountain Drifters as one of the more distinctive voices in the mid-2010s old-time revival.
