Mondo Mando, released by Warner Bros. in 1981, is David Grisman's second studio album for the label and a high point in his Dawg Music period — the all-instrumental, jazz-influenced acoustic style he had built since the late 1970s. The all-star band gathered for the session brings together Tony Rice on guitar, Darol Anger on violin and violectra, Mike Marshall on mandolin and guitar, Mark O'Connor on fiddle, and bassist Rob Wasserman, working through original compositions like Cedar Hill, Dawg Funk, and the title track. By this point Dawg Music had become its own scene, a meeting point for the most adventurous acoustic musicians of the period, and Mondo Mando is the genre's mature studio statement.
