New Favorite, released August 14, 2001 on Rounder, is the fourth studio album by Alison Krauss and Union Station and the lineup's first with mandolinist and lead singer Dan Tyminski up front on roughly half the tracks. Tyminski (lead vocals/guitar), Krauss (fiddle/vocals), Ron Block (banjo/vocals), Jerry Douglas (Dobro), and Barry Bales (bass) build the program around Gillian Welch and David Rawlings songs ("The Lucky One," the title track), Robert Lee Castleman's "The Lucky One," and originals from Tyminski. Recorded in the long shadow of Tyminski's bluegrass-shaking turn as the voice of George Clooney on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack of the previous year, New Favorite won Grammys for Best Bluegrass Album and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
