Odd Man In is a 1991 album released by Tim O'Brien on Sugar Hill Records (SH-CD-3790), a recording originally made for RCA before the label dropped him; Sugar Hill acquired and released the sessions. O'Brien (mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, vocals) leads an ensemble featuring Mollie O'Brien (his sister, harmony vocals), Nick Forster (guitar, vocals), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Jerry Douglas (dobro), and Mark Schatz (bass), with John Magnie (accordion), John Gardner (drums), and Pete Wasner (keyboards) extending the sonic palette. The album blends bluegrass, country, and folk in a post–Hot Rize declaration of O'Brien's solo voice, setting the tone for the wide-ranging acoustic career that followed.
