Original Shenandoah Valley Quartet, a 1977 Jim Eanes release, gathers the singer with a working bluegrass-gospel quartet drawn from his long-running Shenandoah Valley Boys circle — Billy Edwards on banjo, John Palmer on bass, Clarence "Tater" Tate on guitar and fiddle, and Herschel Sizemore on mandolin. The program is entirely sacred: Little Old Country Church, A Beautiful Life, Angel Band, Just a Little Talk with Jesus, and other gospel standards delivered in the four-part harmony Eanes had been honing for two decades. The album sits in the productive late-career stretch when Eanes was working southern radio and festivals as both a singer and a respected bluegrass DJ.
