Return Journey is a 2004 album released by the Rarely Herd on their own Herd Records imprint (HR 1001), the first release on the label the band founded after their long Pinecastle run. Jim Stack (guitar, lead vocals), Calvin Leport (banjo), Dan Brooks (dobro), Jeff Weaver (bass, vocals), and Jeff Hardin (fiddle, guitar, vocals)—who had joined following Alan Stack's departure—were again produced by Ronnie Reno. The album reflects the band's transition to self-release while maintaining the musical approach and Midwestern audience they had cultivated across six Pinecastle albums. Note: Alan Stack is listed in the catalog personnel but had left the band before this recording; the fiddle chair was held by Jeff Hardin.
