Special Consensus's Rivers and Roads, released on Compass Records (7 4709-2) in March 2018, is the Chicago-based band's 19th recording and most decorated album. Greg Cahill plays banjo; Rick Faris, guitar and lead vocals; Nick Dumas, mandolin; Dan Eubanks, upright bass. Guests include Bobby Osborne, Molly Tuttle, Becky Buller, Josh Williams, Mark Schatz, and Justin Moses; produced by Alison Brown. The album won the IBMA Album of the Year award in 2018 and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Bluegrass Album—the peak of a career Cahill launched in Chicago in 1975 and the clearest demonstration of his lifelong argument that bluegrass can flourish far outside its Southern Appalachian home ground.
