Rumor and Sigh (Capitol CDP 7 95713 2, 1991) is widely considered Richard Thompson's finest solo album, produced by Mitchell Froom in his third collaboration with the British singer-guitarist. The sessions feature Jim Keltner (drums), Jerry Scheff (bass), John Kirkpatrick (accordion, concertina), Aly Bain (fiddle), Simon Nicol (guitar), Philip Pickett (crumhorn), and Clive Gregson and Christine Collister on vocals, alongside Froom's Hammond organ and Chamberlin. The album produced "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" — arguably Thompson's signature song, the title that inspired the folk trio Red Molly's name — and his biggest U.S. hit "I Feel So Good." Its deep roots in English folk tradition and unflinching songwriting have earned it enduring status as a touchstone of the Americana and roots-rock canon.
