Sawmill (Rebel Records REB 1636) is a studio album from the Del McCoury Band, the York County, Pennsylvania traditional bluegrass ensemble that Del McCoury built around his direct, uncompromising approach to the Kentucky hard-driving style following his years with Bill Monroe and his subsequent leadership of the Dixie Pals and multiple other configurations. McCoury plays guitar and sings; Ronnie McCoury plays mandolin and sings; Jon Glik plays banjo; Mike Garris plays fiddle; and Paul Silvius holds the bass. Rebel Records, which had documented McCoury's earlier solo recordings, provided the natural home for the family-centered ensemble that he had built around himself and his son Ronnie — a band whose collective commitment to the traditional approach and whose individual instrumental virtuosity made them one of the most consistently admired traditional acts in the festival and concert circuit by the time of this recording.
