Sing Widow Maker cover

Sing Widow Maker, released by Decca in June 1964 (DL 4536), is built around the truck-driving novelty that gave it its title — Widow Maker, Jimmy Martin's biggest hit of the decade — and frames the Sunny Mountain Boys at the peak of their working-band cohesion. The LP filled out the title track with the mix of mountain ballads, gospel quartets, and uptempo bluegrass numbers that defined Martin's Decca catalog, all delivered in his characteristic hard-driving rhythm. Widow Maker itself crossed over to the country audience that had embraced trucker songs as a genre, and the album rode that momentum into Martin's most commercially visible period.
