Christie Lynn Sings Country • Gospel • Bluegrass was released in 2006 on Gusto Records (GT-0623-2). Porter Wagoner, her former duet partner, produced it; it was the second project he produced for her, after Dixie Girl, a private pressing sold only at her appearances. A conversation with Wagoner is what started her thinking about a bluegrass and acoustic record.
The 12 tracks open with Wagoner’s “Bluegrass Boogie” and are followed by country and bluegrass songs and, as track 11, a gospel medley. Wagoner sings with her on “Model Church,” where Ralph Stanley also appears, and on “Beneath the Sweet Magnolia Tree,” a Dolly Parton song on which Parton sings as well. Other songs include “Lonesome Dove” (Larry Cordle and Carl Jackson), Wagoner’s “Lonely Sounds of Night” and Lorraine Wagoner’s “Closest Neighbor.”
The players credited on the album include Bryan Sutton, James Alan Shelton and Mark Moseley on acoustic guitar, Charlie Cushman and David Talbot on banjo, Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Rob Ickes, Andy Hall and Scotty Sanders on dobro, and Mark Fain and Billy Lineman on bass, with Carl Jackson, Margie Cates and Monty Lane Allen on backing vocals. Mark Moseley is credited as engineer.
