Snow Covered Mound, recorded February 27, 1980 at Lowell Varney's Riverside Recording Studios in Crum, Virginia, is one of Ralph Stanley's gospel projects from his productive Rebel Records era — featuring the Clinch Mountain Boys lineup of Charlie Sizemore and Junior Blankenship. The title track is performed a cappella, as are Go Down Moses and Tarry With Me Oh My Saviour, foregrounding the unaccompanied harmony singing the Stanleys had always made central to their gospel work. The album sits among the many Ralph Stanley sacred records of his post-Carter era, each anchored by the high-tenor voice and Old Baptist conviction that became his late-career signature.
