The American Fiddler (Mountain Home Music Company MH-20732, 2022) is a solo studio album from Kentucky Thunder fiddler Andy Leftwich, presenting original compositions alongside traditional material across twelve tracks with a rotating cast of acoustic collaborators. Leftwich plays fiddle on every track and mandolin on most; his partners include guitarists Cody Kilby and Bryan Sutton, banjo players Scott Vestal and Matt Menefee, dobro player Rob Ickes, and mandolinists Sierra Hull and Ricky Skaggs, among others drawn from the Nashville acoustic community. Each track features a different subset of this ensemble, giving the album an episodic character that suits the range of fiddle traditions Leftwich surveys — bluegrass contest style, old-time, Celtic, and jazz-influenced approaches across the twelve pieces. The album demonstrates Leftwich's standing as one of the most versatile fiddlers active in Nashville acoustic circles.
