The Grascals' self-titled debut, released in 2005, introduced a band that had assembled some of Nashville's most seasoned bluegrass musicians into a cohesive and energetic unit. Formed around the core of Danny Roberts, Terry Eldredge, David Talbot, and Jimmy Mattingly, the group brought experience from stints with Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, and other major acts. Their debut on Rounder Records signaled a commitment to traditional bluegrass values within a polished Nashville production context. 'Sweet By and By' represents the gospel dimension that has remained important to the band's identity. The album earned the Grascals immediate recognition from the IBMA and established them as a leading voice among the generation of traditional-minded bands that emerged in the mid-2000s.
