"The Holy Coming of the Storm," released in December 2010 as a self-produced recording, is the debut album by Pacific Northwest duo Cahalen Morrison and Eli West. Morrison plays guitar, clawhammer banjo, and bouzouki; West plays guitar, bouzouki, and banjo. The ensemble also includes fiddle, mandolin, and bass, with Matt Flinner serving as producer. Recorded largely live to tape at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, Colorado, the album's 14 tracks carry the feel of an extended informal session rather than a studio artifact. The duo's spare, high-lonesome original songwriting drew comparisons to early Gillian Welch and David Rawlings across the Americana and old-time press, establishing them as a distinctive voice in the contemporary Pacific Northwest roots scene.
