The Marfa Tapes is a 2021 RCA Nashville album by equal collaborators Jack Ingram, Miranda Lambert, and Jon Randall, recorded outdoors near Marfa, Texas, in late 2020. The sessions were captured with just two microphones and two acoustic guitars, embracing ambient desert sound, audible room noise, and unedited takes to create a deliberately raw, intimate document. The record draws almost entirely from original compositions the trio developed together, including the ACM Song of the Year "Tin Man." Metacritic scored the album 84, reflecting near-universal critical acclaim. The record demonstrated that major-label country artists could produce work of uncommon emotional directness when stripped of Nashville's production apparatus — a proposition that resonated strongly with listeners across acoustic folk and country audiences alike.
