The Old Home String Band (Rounder Records 4504) is a studio album from an ensemble led by Tracy Schwarz of the New Lost City Ramblers, presenting old-time and traditional string band material in the direct acoustic format that Schwarz had developed through decades of performing with Mike Seeger and John Cohen in the foremost old-time revival ensemble of the twentieth century. Schwarz plays fiddle and sings; Joe Isaacs plays banjo and guitar; Dewey Renfro contributes guitar work; Dick Staber holds the bass; and Sarah Jarosz contributes additional work. Rounder Records, which had documented the old-time and folk revival tradition extensively across its catalog, provided the context for Schwarz's ensemble work, presenting the traditional material in the same unadorned acoustic setting that characterized his career in revival-era old-time performance.
