Try a Little Kindness, released in 2006 on Rounder (11661 0552 2), is Bobby Osborne's first solo album as a Rounder bandleader, recorded after younger brother Sonny's 2005 retirement ended the Osborne Brothers' half-century run. At seventy-five, Osborne effectively restarted his career under his own name, leading the Rocky Top X-Press through a traditional-leaning program with his piercing high tenor up front and three-part chorus harmonies in classic Osborne Brothers fashion. The repertoire is unusually eclectic — Hazel Dickens, Bill Monroe, Carter Stanley, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Simon, and the Glen Campbell title cut — and signals Osborne's intent to keep working the road and the studio rather than retire alongside Sonny.
