What About Him

The Rarely Herd

Album · 1997 · Pinecastle PRC 1062

What About Him is a 1997 album released by the Rarely Herd on Pinecastle Records (PRC 1062), the band's first all-gospel recording. Jim Stack (guitar, lead vocals), Alan Stack (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Dan Brooks (dobro, vocals), Calvin Leport (banjo), and Jeff Weaver (bass, vocals) deliver a program of sacred material produced by Butch Baldassari in Nashville. The album earned a Dove Award nomination, extending the band's reach beyond the bluegrass festival circuit into Southern gospel audiences. Guest dobro appearances by Gene Wooten and Rob Ickes on individual tracks add textural depth. What About Him was the Athens County, Ohio quintet's fourth Pinecastle release and their most explicitly devotional recording.
