You Can Share My Blanket, released by Rounder Records in 1978 (Rounder 0096), is J.D. Crowe and the New South's follow-up to the canonical Rounder 0044, with the lineup now rebuilt around Glenn Lawson on guitar and lead vocals, Jimmy Gaudreau on mandolin, Bobby Slone moved to fiddle, and Randy Best on electric bass — a substantially different band from the celebrated 1975 configuration. Guests Jim Murphy on steel and dobro and Karl Himmel on drums underline the album's reach toward a country-leaning sound. The title track became a Crowe staple, and the album represents the New South's transitional moment as it moved beyond the Skaggs–Rice–Douglas lineup into the working band that would carry the name forward.
