The Steep Canyon Rangers are a North Carolina band, formed around 2000 by students at UNC Chapel Hill, that grew from campus string band to Grammy winner without ever losing its dance-hall drive.

- The longtime core — Woody Platt (guitar, lead vocals), Graham Sharp (banjo), Mike Guggino (mandolin), Nicky Sanders (fiddle), and Charles Humphrey III (bass) — is the lineup on most of the recordings here; Barrett Smith and Mike Ashworth later joined, and Aaron Burdett took the guitar chair when Platt stepped away in 2022.
- Steve Martin made them his touring band in 2009, a partnership that put bluegrass on network television; their own Nobody Knows You won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in 2013.
