40 cover

40 is a 2005 Rebel Records album (REB-CD-1806) celebrating Larry Sparks's fortieth year in bluegrass, produced by Don Rigsby, and the winner of both IBMA Album of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year. The sixteen-track program assembles an all-star cast — Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Tom T. Hall, Stuart Duncan, Danny Roberts, and others — in a genuine celebration of a career that began when Sparks joined Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys after the death of Carter Stanley. The album spans Sparks originals alongside signature songs, honoring four decades of commitment to the hard, mountain-rooted traditional bluegrass style that Sparks helped define and preserve through every era since his arrival on the scene in the late 1960s.
