A Salute to Uncle Dave Macon (Starday Records SLP 215, 1963) is a tribute studio album from David "Stringbean" Akeman, the long-necked banjo comedian and Grand Ole Opry fixture who had absorbed Macon's performing spirit through their overlapping years on the Opry, presenting pieces from Macon's repertoire in direct homage to the Tennessee entertainer who had shaped his approach to banjo comedy and old-time showmanship. Akeman plays banjo and sings; Eddie Wilson contributes vocal and instrumental work; and Jack Drake holds the bass. The tribute allowed Akeman — whose comedic banjo style had been directly shaped by Macon's example — to honor the older entertainer's contribution to the tradition they shared, presenting Macon's material in the vaudeville-inflected old-time idiom that connected both performers across a generation.
