Album · 2005 · Copper Creek CCCD 0237

A Warmer Kind of Blue is a 2005 Copper Creek Records album (CCCD-0237) by the Kathy Kallick Band. Kallick — a Bay Area bluegrass singer, songwriter, and guitarist who co-founded the all-women Good Ol' Persons in 1975 alongside Laurie Lewis — leads an ensemble featuring Tom Bekeny on mandolin and vocals, Avram Siegel on banjo and guitar and vocals, and Brian Wicklund on fiddle. Primarily Kallick originals, the program stretches traditional bluegrass toward folk and Western swing within an acoustic string-band framework. Copper Creek, based in Galax, Virginia, was a respected independent label dedicated to bluegrass and old-time music; this album appeared near the end of the label's active years and represents the band in confident mid-career form.
