Kathy Kallick is an Illinois-born guitarist, singer, and songwriter who co-founded Good Ol' Persons in 1975 — one of the first all-women bluegrass bands — and has led the Kathy Kallick Band since 1996, anchoring Bay Area bluegrass for nearly half a century.
- Born September 19, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois; raised in suburban Evanston.
- Mother Dodi Kallick was a leading figure in the 1950s–60s Chicago folk scene and helped establish the Old Town School of Folk Music.
- Discovered bluegrass while attending the San Francisco Art Institute, then settled into the Bay Area scene.
- In 1975 co-founded Good Ol' Persons with Laurie Lewis, Barbara Mendelsohn, Dorothy Baxter, and Sue Shelasky — one of the first all-women bluegrass bands; the group lasted roughly 20 years and released five albums.
- Formed the Kathy Kallick Band in 1996; albums include "Between the Hollow and the Highrise" (2010), "Time" (2012), and "Foxhounds" (2015).
- Won a Grammy and two IBMA Awards for the multi-artist tribute "True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe."
- The 2014 duo album "Laurie & Kathy Sing the Songs of Vern & Ray" honored their bluegrass mentors.
