My Mother's Voice is a 2014 album by Kathy Kallick, the California-based singer and guitarist who has been one of the most thoughtful and original voices in bluegrass and old-time music for four decades. Kallick came up through the Good Ol' Persons, one of the few women-led groups to work the bluegrass festival circuit in the 1970s and 1980s. The title suggests an album oriented toward family, memory, and inheritance — themes that run through the deepest bluegrass and country traditions — and Kallick's voice, warm and unforced, suits that kind of reflective program. My Mother's Voice reflects the maturity of a musician who has spent a career in service to the music rather than seeking to transcend it.
